Inflammatory myofibroblastic tumors (IMTs) of the lateral skull base are a rare condition usually accompanied by hearing loss and otalgia. Although IMTs often appear to be benign, they can display malignant characteristics. Although they can usually be managed via surgical resection or corticosteroids, these treatments are sometimes combined with radiotherapy or chemotherapy according to the affected area and clinical condition. Surgical resection of IMTs of the lateral skull base may be an appropriate choice due to the relative accessibility of this brain region, and a good prognosis is often achieved. We share our experience with and provide a clinical review of this rare condition. (J Taiwan Otolaryngol Head Neck Surg 2022; 57:142-145)
