Myiasis caused by Dermatobia hominis is common in residents and travelers to the tropical parts of Central and South America. We present the case of a 38-year-old man with non-healing wounds, discharge, and erythematous skin change on his right auricle. He had a travel history to Paraguay, where he had gone mountain-climbing. After returning to Taiwan, he had symptoms of right ear pain with discharge and crusts on the right auricle. He was initially treated for cellulitis with oral antibiotics at a local clinic. Subsequently, he was referred to our medical center for further management. An incision and drainage procedure was performed because of suspected abscess formation, but only two larvae along with some necrotic tissue were observed. After consultation with an infectious disease physician, the final diagnosis was right auricular cellulitis and myiasis caused by D. hominis. In this report, we discuss the presentation and treatment of lesions caused by D. hominis in order to raise physicians’ awareness of non-healing wounds caused by D. hominis.
